Tamarah Savage, 35, was crossing North Broad Street on the 2700 block around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 6 when she was hit, city police said.

The driver fled north up Broad Street while first responders declared Savage dead at the scene minutes later, according to the department. The suspect's vehicle is described as a white Chevrolet Impala, model years 2006 to 2013, with dark tinted windows, police added.

As investigators continued to search for the driver, Savage's loved ones took to social media last week to memorialize her.

In a GoFundMe campaign, the 35-year-old's mother described her as "the sweetest soul."

"Though she had her battles, she had many smiles to give," wrote Rhonda Savage. "She was a daughter, sister, friend, aunt, and mother (...) She loved and she was loved."

Her daughter, she noted, was just two days away from her 36th birthday when she was killed.

"We should have been celebrating her birthday and instead, we are planning her funeral," Rhonda wrote. "So we want to celebrate her life the best way we possibly can by laying her to rest well!"

Rhonda and her loved ones hope the GoFundMe will help them give Tamarah a proper send-off.

"So we ask for any additional blessings from you all to help our family with her untimely death and burial," she said. "That's how we want to remember her, by all of the good memories we have of her."
